Spring Feeding on a Muddy April Day with the Model A
Переглядів 5162 місяці тому
Over the winter I fed with the larger (and warmer) John Deere 4230. However, now that the snow is gone and the 4230 is needed for other tasks (which has only happened within the past week), I put the feeder back onto the trusty old Model A. We've also started spring farming, but today was a very rainy day, which made the pasture quite muddy. However, it makes for pretty and dynamic clouds. Also...
Driving the Farmall F 30 Through the Remaining Spring Snow
Переглядів 3012 місяці тому
After a long winter, I took the F-30 out for a quick drive across a field. The field was pretty wet and soft with soft snow, so it did work the machine (running in 3rd of 4) a little bit. The tractor fired right up too after the grounded choke turns, it fired up on the first upthrow of the handle.

Driving the A with the 38 Mower Over the Dry Farm to see Fall Colors
Переглядів 1 тис.9 місяців тому
In this video I take the 1951 John Deere Model A over to the higher fields on the dry farm, as the colors are currently very nice and vibrant. I also wanted to get a few photos before the leaves fall. The video also shows the tractor doing a steep climb in 4th gear, which lugged the engine down enough to hear the nice load sound produced by the two-cylinder engine. The tractor has an attached J...
Drone Footage of Raking Hay 2023 (With Nigh Footage) DJI Air 3
Переглядів 4279 місяців тому
This video is (mostly) drone footage of a John Deere 4230 raking hay with a Hesston rake. It contains some footage of a John Deere Model B raking hay with a pull-behind side-delivery rake, made by International Harvester. The video shows both new alfalfa and grain hay being raked. We double-rake to help the hay to complete its drying process, as well as to help it increase the volume of the alf...
Driving the BW To the Dry Farm and Back (With A Steep Grade Climb)
Переглядів 8099 місяців тому
In this video I take the 1949 John Deere WB AF (All-Fuel) over to a field on the dry farm (non-irrigated land) and back. The tractor does get a load applied to the engine while climbing the hills. Sorry about the transmission whine I've tried various oils and such to try to reduce it, but as far as I can tell from reading online, it's common with these old tractors and if they do it then there'...
Cutting Grain Hay with the CaseIH WD2303, August 2023, DJI Air 3
Переглядів 42510 місяців тому
This video shows mostly drone footage of the CaseIH WD2303 cutting grain hay (grain that is cut for baling to be used as cattle feed). The crop is a mixture of barley, oats, and wheat. The video shows some iPhone footage, followed by DJI Air 3. Best viewed on an HDR screen that supports Dolby Vision.

Rolling Alfalfa with the 47 Model A
Переглядів 2,7 тис.Рік тому
We have a lot of rocks here, so in the springtime we roll the alfalfa fields with a cultivator and roller (see some of my previous videos). In this video, we're using a 1947 (48 model year) John Deere Model A to pull a weighted roller. The purpose of the roller is simple to push rocks down into the ground to assist in less damage to the swather (windrower) and other equipment. It was also a goo...
Disking with the JD 5020 with the Setting Sun
Переглядів 943Рік тому
This is a quick video of the John Deere 5020 with the BW disk, disking with the setting sun, spring 2023. I thought the contrast through the dust was kind of neat. If you can watch it in HDR, then you'll get a better feel for it.
Harrowing with the 1947 Farmall Model M
Переглядів 1,7 тис.Рік тому
Harrowing the alfalfa field after a long winter. During the winter, the mice and such do a lot of damage to the alfalfa fields. Because of this, we need to harrow them. We typically use an Triple-K harrow with the roller (which is a lot more aggressive in pulling everything up and then smoothing it back down with the roller), but this is a fairly new stand still. Also, any excuse to use the old...

You didn't have to convert the manifold. The tractor is a multi fuel. It burns gas.

I see the front wheels wobbling back and forth, but I can’t see the steering wheel. Could your steering gear be loose? Nice country, tractor, and video!! I have a 1951 BW. Yakima hitch, live hydraulics, water pump, and tachometer/ speedometer.

Our model G had no muffler for a few years and we could hear when my Dad was using it while we were at school several miles away. Yep he sure got hard of hearing from being too cheap to get a new muffler for it, so he had to spend several times what a muffler would have cost on hearing aids later in life.

Hello. What do you apply to oat hay during harvest? I am from Poland and I am very interested in the issue of oat hay. How long does it take from mowing to harvesting? At what humidity do you harvest hay. Great production, great farm.

Grew up on a JD 420 row crop tractor with a tricycle front end. It still runs great. The only repair ever done was to replace the clutch. Have to say it is the most durable toughest little tractor I have ever known of. Newer John Deeres and Kubotas are smoother and easier to operate, but not better. The 2 cylinder gas-powered JD seemed so powerful and torqued with the way the governor on them worked. I remember cutting some thick fibrous grass with a 5 foot brush hog. The 420 would load up and strain , shake the whole tractor. The engine would get louder but would not die. The PTO would be turning the brush hog blades so slow that the centrifugal force would not be enough for the blades to cut the grass. Only an electric motor has more torque per RPM than a 2 banger JD. AMAZING!

Thanks I have an L also without the SN tag they were in a bad place and easily lost when people threw a chain around the rear axel to pull something. Mine has starter and lights. that is not the difference between L and LA as someone commented. Was originally used by the ND Highway Dept to mow roadsides. Remember seeing them when I was little. I think you miss identified the oil pressure gauge as the engine temp gauge. Fun little tractors. .

Kyle, I look at Afton nature with intermittent springs. So itersting for cold water kind of spring situated in the zone of vertical circulation. In our country Croatia this type is completely different and it is periodic because of Dinaric karst. For all hydrological engineer and karstology (in one term) we are full of periodic springs like in Vrgosko polje or The Krčić River as a completely different type that is evident that there is no covering soil and hence no vegetation either in the entire spring zone or in the upstream part of catchement.
